A glance at our first Chart of the Day this week shows just how mainstream online commerce has become. As we discuss in our new GWI Commerce Q1 2016 report (get a free summary version here), engagement rates are high for all of the commerce behaviors tracked by GWI and, across our 34 surveyed countries, it’s now almost 80% of internet users who are shopping online at least once a month.
Online purchasing may peak among 25-34s (at 83%) but even among the oldest age group tracked by GWI (the 55-64s) nearly three quarters are buying products over the internet on a monthly basis.
What’s more, that the lowest income consumers are almost as likely to be shopping online as the top income quartile is an indication of how few barriers to engagement there now are. Simply put, we are all online shoppers now.
